The Painters Business Academy (PBA) event is fast approaching, and we’re excited to announce that Monika Winner of BBC’s Interior Designs Master from 84 Square will be joining us as a special guest this year! Monika is a talented artisan who has been upcycling furniture for several years now. Her unique style, which she describes as “faded glamour meets dark bohemian,” has garnered her a lot of attention in the industry.

Monika’s Story

Monika’s passion for upcycling started at a young age, growing up in Gdansk, Poland. Her parents instilled in her a mindset of repairing and re-loving items. This mindset was carried with her when she moved to England. She and her then-boyfriend accumulated a house full of second-hand furniture from online marketplaces. Monika saw an opportunity to transform them into revitalized versions of their former selves.

As she immersed herself in the upcycling subculture, Monika found her own unique style. Her style blends antique furniture with moody colour palettes and mystical patterns. Her style has been described as “granny goth,” but it’s much more than that. Each piece she works on has its own character, and Monika brings that to the forefront with her decoration. Monika’s Approach

Monika carefully considers every piece of furniture she works on. She focuses on looking at how the shapes flow together and how the different parts interact with each other. This approach inspires her decisions, leading her in completely unique directions. Whether it’s a gradient of colour over a serpentine sideboard or a bold and busy pattern over a large plain surface, Monika’s decoration makes each piece feel like an 84 Square original.
